'Sprucing up' an old or tired rod is a good way to bring it back to life without going the whole hog of getting it completely stripped down - if the blank is in pretty decent condition but the whippings need re-sealing or have just lost their 'shine'.  . . . . . . .  .

They can be re-epoxy'd, giving you an 'as new' finish like the image below, a typical match/feeder/barbel rod would cost around £30, message/call for further details if that appeals, turn-around time is generally 1 to 2 weeks.

Happy new River Season !

Well the new season's finally here, my start wasn't too clever on the River Severn, with just a chub, a 5lb bream, and sunburn to show for my efforts ! The bream was full of breeding tubercles, so I think that tells it's own tale  . . . . .

Inbetween a few services I dug a bit of kit out. . . . .

So I thought I'd get ahead of myself in a rare moment of forward thinking efficiency by making some heavy leads for when the inevitable rainy season starts  . . . . . . . .

So i cobbled together a mould (smartgrip mould) and a few tools......

Dug out my trusty Hippolito stove and filled it with paraffin. . . . . .

A bit of extra help from a gas torch to get the lead to temp' and away we go. . . .

Here's a few from the batch I knocked up that were then powder coated.....

 The finished article :)

Some reel cleaning & servicing shots . . . . . . .

Just a few shots here to illustrate the average depth to which a common reel I service is stripped down to.

Here in the shots is a couple of 5010 shimano baitrunners being stripped down for a pre-river season service, can't wait myself now, 3 months is a long time ! Roll on the new season, and let's hope i have as good a season this year as last ;)

Start: basics off - handle, body screws etc.....

Rotor head and main side plate off. . . . .  baitrunner mechanism out and shaft out, worm drive disconnected.

Main reel body, level wind 'pawl' out and checked for wear, worm shaft also checked with magnifying glass, to be sure ;)

Main body ready to be re-assembled and re-greased. . . . . . .  rear drag also cleaned and checked.

Re-assembled and ready . . . . . . . . . . . .

I usually take payment in cash but I will also take PayPal, I would just need to send an invoice to your Paypal email account, to be paid prior to collection.

Reel Servicing, Baitrunners, Big Pits, Sea Multipliers, Match from £15

Yes, I also service reels too !

Treat your reels this winter! Offers on for multi-reel services.
Big pit carp reels, Baitrunners, Match reels etc, Boat & Sea Multipliers £15 each

2 cleaned & serviced for £25.00
or
3 cleaned & serviced for £35.00

Your reel(s) will be stripped, cleaned, re-assembled, bearings oiled & gears greased.
Prices above apply to working reels that do not need parts, for anything else please
email your question or problem if you need a reel repairing.

A good clean & service will often give a noisy grinding reel a new lease of life. Reels
that have been stored for months without a clean will often be stiff and noisy with
little or no lubrication inside, reels are often 'good as new' after a decent service.

Reels normally turned around within a week or sooner, please mail any questions to
me first (cuts time wasters out!) and I will provide my mobile number & further details.

I may also drop them off to you if you are reasonably local, (I am stretford based)
or further afield for a little extra. Over 20 years experience servicing reels & in the trade.

email or call to arrange an appointment.

Rod Repair: Butt Ring replacement

This is just a couple of shots of a recent repair to a broken butt ring on a Maver float rod.
Very quick and straightforward repair costing around £8 to £10 all in, including the price of the ring.

The whipping colour match was very good, almost identical, and as you can see, the finish is superb ! Two shots, one with and one without the flash . . . . ..
